A scientific meeting on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) was held successfully on February 27, 2006, in the Sheraton Hotel, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon.
This meeting, entitled “Release patients from the burden of COPD”, was co-organized by the Hong Kong Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians (Hong Kong & Macau Chapter), and aimed to update medical practitioners of the recent therapeutic advances for the disease
Professor Denis O’Donnell, Professor of Medicine and Physiology at Queen’s University, Canada, had delivered a talk entitled “Impacting patient-centered outcomes in COPD: breathlessness and exercise tolerance.” In his talk, Professor Denis O’Donnell outlined how dynamic hyperinflation contributes to dyspnea and how it can be corrected with pharmacotherapy. The seminar was well attended with enthusiastic participation from the floor during Question & Answer time.
