The ANZSRS Respiratory Physiology Course was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians (HK & Macau Chapter) and supported by the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science (ANZSRS). The programme was designed to cater for doctors interested in lung function studies, nurses, as well as technical staff with working experience of clinical pulmonary function testing. It was successfully held on 30 & 31 October 2009 (Fri and Sat) at the Ruttonjee-Tang Shiu Kin Hospital. Our local Organizing Committee consisted of the following: Convener: Dr CHAN Wai Ming, Co-Convener: Dr LAM Chi Leung, David; Members: Dr LAM Wai Kei, Dr LAU Chun Wing, Arthur, Dr TAM Cheuk Yin and Dr WONG Mo Lin, Maureen. We also had an Invited the ANZSRS Faculty Dr Kevin GAIN, Mr Paul GUY and Associate Professor Bruce THOMPSON. The programme featured a special provision of 3 hands-on demonstration sessions during the course, and presentation by the local team who was involved in the preparation of the Hong Kong Reference Range of Spirometry and Diffusion Studies. A total of 134 doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff have attended, of which 73 attended the conference and 61 attended both conference and workshop. To allow adequate contact with the participants, the hands-on workshops were conducted in 3 small groups of up to 20 participants in each. Participant feedback from the post-course survey was very favourable. It is hoped that more in-depth modules, such as lung function laboratory certification, training, quality control and discussion on real life case studies, can be organized in the future.

The ANZSRS Lung Function Test Roadshow Program is a training course on various aspects of lung function testing in form of both lectures and hands-on workshops. Members of HKTS/ACCP/APSR/ANZSRS have priorities in registration. Non-members are then registered on a first-come-first-served basis.
