    The Hong Kong Thoracic Society and ACCP (Hong Kong and Macau Chapter), with the support from the Hong Kong Lung Foundation and for their first time, in collaboration with the Chinese Medical Association and the Hong Kong Medical Association, jointly organized the 10th Beijing\/Hong Kong Exchange \u2013 \u201cAn Update on Respiratory Medicine\u201d, which was successfully held on 8th and 9th November 2008 in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Beijing\/Hong Kong Medical Exchange first held in Beijing in 1997, is an annual academic event hosted by the Chinese Medical Association and the Hong Kong Medical Association in Beijing and Hong Kong alternately. With the increasing awareness of the importance of Respiratory diseases in Hong Kong and China, \u201cAn Update on Respiratory Medicine\u201d is chosen as the main theme of the conference this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Nearly 700 participants, including local, mainland and overseas delegates, attended this two-day conference. A distinguished panel of local, mainland and overseas speakers enlightened the audience with their practical and up-to-date knowledge of various common respiratory diseases and problems namely influenza, airway diseases, sleep-disordered breathing, lung cancer, non-invasive ventilation, smoking cessation and chronic cough. Speakers also found it an excellent opportunity to share and exchange their experience, opinions and expertise knowledge among themselves and with the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Together with the comprehensive report of the newly completed project on \u201cBurden of Lung Diseases\u201d, this meeting has raised not only the academic knowledge among healthcare professionals, but also the public awareness on the importance of respiratory diseases. We hope, after this meeting, a more intense collaboration on both sides can be possible to help fighting against respiratory diseases and promulgation of respiratory health in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
