The 2009 Autumn Respiratory Seminar (ARS) has been another successfully organized event with more than 340 participants. After the opening remarks of Dr. KS Chan, Chairman of Hong Kong Lung Foundation, the symposium on \u201cSleep Apnoea and Respiratory Failure\u201d, with talks delivered by local experts of Dr. CM Chu, Professor David Hui and Professor Mary Ip, started off the exciting day.
After a sip of coffee, the refreshed participants then faced a difficult choice between two equally important parallel sessions. The Concurrent Session for Allied Health Professionals, contributed by local speakers like Dr. Kwan Hoi-yee, Dr. Lam Wai-kei, Dr. Wong Chun-man and Dr. Yeung Yiu-cheong, focused on pitfalls on day-to-day practice of respiratory medicine. The parallel symposium \u201cAdvances in Therapeutics\u201d was privileged by having a distinguished panel of international speakers to update us on treatment advances in areas of COPD (Professor Peter Barnes), non-small cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) (Dr. Roman Perez-Soler) and Asthma (Professor Christian Virchow). The program in the afternoon was no less exciting with Dr. Chong-jen Yu\u2019s update on the use of bio-makers in the management of NSCLC, as well as a symposium of Pleural Diseases with Professor Gary Lee and Dr. Ma Chan-chung sharing their expertise in pleural effusions and pleural surgery respectively. The 2009 ARS was offered a perfect conclusion with the Symposium of Influenza, where Professor Melik Peiris, Dr. Thomas Tsang and Dr. Vincent Pelegrino delivered the updated knowledge and situation of Seasonal and Pandemic H1N1 Influenza, followed by presentations from local respiratory physicians on treatment of our local severe H1N1 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
